【Reported by the US Counter-UAS Center on March 26】The Innovation Hub of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has selected Matrix Space radar to enhance airborne drone detection capabilities. Developed by U.S.-based Matrix Space, the radar employs artificial intelligence-driven edge processing technology, enabling real-time detection, tracking and classification of targets in complex environments. It will help improve aerial surveillance over vast and remote areas, supporting missions of U.S. Department of Homeland Security agencies including U.S. Customs and Border Protection, and addressing challenges posed by drone operations in the U.S. National Airspace System.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security plans to equip compact Matrix Space radars on Category 3 or smaller drones, enabling detect-and-avoid operations through enhanced situational awareness for safer integration into the U.S. National Airspace System. Following preliminary validation, U.S. Customs and Border Protection intends to integrate this radar type onto small unmanned aerial platforms for further flight testing and data collection. The integration of Matrix Space radar into U.S. Department of Homeland Security drone activities forms part of broader efforts to advance beyond-visual-line-of-sight drone operations in the United States, and is critical to strengthening aerial surveillance and border security.
